Description

The Sintra National Palace, also known as Palácio da Vila, is located in the parish of St. Martin in the town of Sintra, Distrito de Lisboa, Portugal.

It was one of the royal palaces and today is owned by the Portuguese State, which uses it for tourism and culture. Urban deployment, its construction began in the fifteenth century, with traces of unknown author.

Presents characteristics of medieval architecture, Gothic, Manueline, Renaissance and romantic. It is considered an example of organic architecture, a set of seemingly separate bodies, but they are part of a whole articulated with each other through courtyards, stairways, corridors and galleries.

The Palace was used by the Portuguese royal family almost until the end of the monarchy in 1910. In 2008 the palace was the most visited Portugal with 408 712 visitors.
